Clay Walker
"Dreaming With My Eyes Open"
Released: 1993
Album: Clay Walker
Lyrics:
I spent half my life on bended knee
Beggin' somebody to change
And the other half prayin' to God
That they never would
And all it got me was twice as lost
When it all turned out the same
But all that beggin' finally did somebody good
I used to dream all night
Of a day that was gone
But come the morning light
Forever from now on
Gonna do my dreamin' with my eyes wide open
I'll do my looking back
With my eyes closed
We can do some livin'
Or spend our whole life hopin'
In the end we're left with
The one we chose
So I'll do my dreaming with my eyes wide open
Every time the world moved on
I fell a little further behind
From running back or following someone home
Until I learned that one step forward
Will take you further on
Than a thousand back or a million that ain't your own
I used to dream all night
Of a day that was gone
But come the morning light
Forever from now on
Gonna do my dreamin' with my eyes wide open
I'll do my looking back
With my eyes closed
We can do some livin'
Or spend our whole life hopin'
In the end we're left with
The one we chose
So I'll do my dreaming with my eyes wide open
We can do some living
Or spend our whole life hopin'
'Cause in the end we're left with
The one we chose
So I'll do my dreaming with my eyes wide open

Ernest Clayton Walker, Jr. (born August 19, 1969) is an American country music artist. He made his debut in 1993 with the single "What's It to You", which reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart, as did its follow-up, 1994's "Live Until I Die". Both singles were included on his self-titled debut album, released in 1993 via Giant Records. He stayed with the label until its 2001 closure, later recording for Warner Bros. Records and RCA Records before joining his current label, Asylum-Curb Records, in 2007. In 1998, Walker appeared on the PBS music program Austin City Limits (season 23). Clay Walker has released a total of 11 albums, including a greatest hits package and an album of Christmas music. His first four studio albums all achieved platinum certification in the United States and his greatest hits collection and fifth studio album were each certified gold. He has charted 30 country singles, including six Number Ones: "What's It to You", "Live Until I Die", Dreaming with My Eyes Open", "If I Could Make a Living", "This Woman and This Man", and "Rumor Has It". His most recent album, She Won't Be Lonely Long, was released in mid-2010. Ernest Clayton Walker, Jr,. was born on August 19, 1969, in Beaumont, Texas, to Ernest and Danna Walker.[4] The oldest of five children, Walker lived in Vidor with his father, who gave him a guitar when he was 9 years old.[3] Walker began entering talent competitions at age 15. After leaving his shift as nighttime desk clerk at a Super 8 Motel, he stopped at a local radio station to deliver a tape of a song that he had written. Although the morning disc jockey told him that the station's policies prohibited playing self-submitted tapes, he played Walker's song and said that it was "too good to pass up."[5] After graduating from Vidor High School in 1986,[6] Walker began working at a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company plant.[4] At 19, he also began touring as a musician, playing various local clubs and eventually finding work as the house singer at a bar in Beaumont called the Neon Armadillo.[3] In November 1992,[4] he was discovered by James Stroud, a record producer who was also the president of Warner Music Group subsidiary Giant Records.[3] Walker signed to Giant late in the year.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Walker

I hear you, but you know those guys aren't even the worst of it. Old Dominion, Russel Dickerson, Kane Brown, SAM HUNT (Can't stand that guy!), FGL, etc, are sucking the life out of country music. When Aldean, Bryan, and Currington all started out like 10 or 15 years ago, they were actually okay, not great but okay. What the record labels have turned them into is garbage. That being said, 80s and 90s country will always be my favorite.

To me, the 50's through the 80's was the best time for country music, not the 90's. But don't get me wrong, the 90's was good too but i just think it was better then. To me, Clay Walker ain't never sung a bad song.

I had the extreme pleasure to meet Clay Walker in a casino in Las Vegas, I must say he is the nicest guy on this planet. He was fun, handsome and a real sweet Texas guy. It's always like a dream when you get the opportunity to meet a country artist that you admire and they turn out to be truely down to earth and real. Clay Walker has the greatest voice and many great hits.

God this is when there was actual honky tonks where the musicians got their start. Guys like Chris LeDoux and Lane Frost were the center of the rodeo world. Texas was the Heartland and you weren't a country music band without a steel guitar and a fiddle!

I wish they would stop trying to expand the fan base with these "new artists" there is a reason country music had the most loyal fan base of all the genres. that crap they call "country" now is more like pop/rap with a guitar in the background (if that). 90's country was the golden age. I hope it revives.
